Our Dark Fibre Solution
Dark fibre is unused optical fibre infrastructure, leased or owned by a network operator. It is called “dark” because it has not yet been lit with a signal such as data or internet traffic. To light it, optical transport equipment is added at each site. We work with a range of specialist optical vendors, including PacketLight, to design and supply this equipment, which lets us match the right platform to your capacity, distance and security needs rather than being tied to a single supplier. Depending on the platform chosen, dark fibre can support a wide range of speeds and distances, with options such as Layer 1 encryption available for sensitive traffic on supported services. This level of control and performance makes dark fibre well suited to organisations with high-performance or highly secure networking needs, such as data centres, ISPs and large enterprises.
